Jonathan Matkowsky

 

Jonathan Matkowsky is the founder and principal of Matkowsky Law. With more than a decade of experience as an IP & business advisor & strategist, Mr. Matkowsky has managed IP deals collectively valued in the millions of dollars and provided strategic IP guidance to some of the world’s largest technology firms.

Prior to founding the firm in October 2011, Mr. Matkowsky served as chief IP counsel of global intellectual property for the Fortune 500 leading global developer of destination casino resorts, Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS).  Earlier in his career, Mr. Matkowsky was legal director for global brand protection at Yahoo!.  As an acclaimed “Yahoo Futurist,” he engineered brand-protection oriented anti-abuse processes praised by cyber-security experts, participated in virtual product development, and patented in the areas of data mining methodologies and intelligent computing. Mr. Matkowsky was the first person to successfully lead an international enforcement investigation to identify a ring of advance-fee fraudsters, and has led successful raids of counterfeit goods throughout China. He has spoken as a delegated expert before panels such as the Council of Europe and RSA.

Prior to Yahoo!, Mr. Matkowsky, worked in the Litigation Group at Seward & Kissel, a prestigious Wall Street firm, founded in 1890, that has a national reputation for its work on behalf of private investment funds, and at Darby & Darby PC, which at the time, was one of the oldest IP law firms in the world.

Mr. Matkowsky is both an alumnus of Cornell Law School, where he received a concentration in Public Interest Law, and was awarded for outstanding service to the community, and of the Rutgers College Honors Program, where he was distinguished as a Henry Rutgers Scholar in Philosophy and awarded for both his outstanding public service to the community and academic achievement.  Mr. Matkowsky graduated from The Stanford Strategic Decision and Risk Management Certificate Program, which provides leaders the advanced skills needed to execute business strategies effectively, and completed Management 512, SANS Security Leadership Essentials for Managers with Knowledge Compression, which is designed to teach vital, up-to-date knowledge and skills required to supervise the security component of any information technology project.  More information on Mr. Matkowsky can be found here.
